Description
Laboratory experiments are conducted on various types of soils to provide a fundamental understanding of basic index and engineering properties of these materials. Experiments are conducted on the following topics: Sieve analysis, hydrometer analysis, Atterberg Limits (liquid and plastic limits), Proctor-type compaction, field density (sand cane), wetting-induced volume changes (swelling, shrinkage, collapse, and slaking), permeability (constant head and falling head), one-dimensional consolidation, and shearing strength (direct shear, unconfined compressions, and triaxial shear).
