Description
This is a required course for all ECE PhD students starting Fall 2022. This course will provide PhD students an opportunity to develop the organizational and teaching skills required for an academic research career. Designed as an add-on to TA training, this discussion-based class contains more in-depth material for graduate students regarding best teaching practices, pedagogy, and education research. Whether you are planning to go into industry or academia, this course will help improve your communication and mentoring skills along with providing a portfolio of curriculum you have designed. The class will meet with the TA Training course ECE 5960/6960 on Mondays to practice teaching skills. On Fridays, the PhD students will meet separately to discuss the science of teaching in more depth. Learn about cognitive science research and how we can use its findings to increase performance in the classroom. Learn teaching techniques to keep students engaged and motivated. Practice creating learning objectives, effective assessments, and teaching in front of an audience. For interested students, there will be an optional follow-on course 7952 where students can implement what they have learned in an education project.
