Description
This graduate seminar engages in discussions about issues related to heritage language education with an emphasis on community heritage language programs and schools. Observations and discussions with local heritage/community language education programs ground the discussions. Topics explored with include who are heritage language learners, the history of heritage language education in the U.S., the challenges facing the field, and in particular the issues and strategies employed in community heritage language programs to foster indigenous/immigrant community languages and literacies, as well as fortify cultural knowledge and identities.
