Description
Painting is a meditation on creating your own world. When you put a brush on rice paper, each brushstroke transforms your image and leaves a mark like a peaceful dream. You feel a new breath emerging from your body and heart. Outside stories fade away. You begin speaking the language of appreciating life. In this class, Osher members will learn to paint pomegranates which symbolize many offspring and family prosperity. Pomegranates are also displayed as lucky decorations and used as popular wedding gifts. While you paint the pomegranate, you draw the joy of expressing a strong red color and creating the many grains in the inner pomegranate. With the diversity of so many creative brushstrokes, Asian ink paintings enable students to know and appreciate beautiful East Asian art. The methods help develop a better cultural exchange, understanding of culture, and respect for the diversity of lifestyles.
