Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) is a unique multidisciplinary field that emerged from multiple academic contexts: social science, cognitive science, Design, and computer science. Each of these disciplines continues to train experts within HCI research and practice. However, an expert in human-computer interaction needs to maintain expertise in one and sometimes several of these different fields, and to be knowledgeable across all of these areas. This course is designed for graduate students to develop skills for doing rigorous work in the field of HCI, with a goal of applying these skills in either an industry or academic context. While there are important differences between working in academia and working in industry, the core skills developed in this course are essential in both contexts.
