Description
That narrow swath of land between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea has evolved into one of the most prized possessions of the modern world. Over the past six months the small Gaza strip in its southwest corner has deteriorated into the site of some of the world's most intense bloodshed. In this course, we will learn about the inhabitants of this land and the political and religious conflicts that brought them each into today's intense confrontation. We will discuss the political factions that shape both Israeli and Palestinian passions, the relationships of both parties with neighbors such as Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Iran, and the overshadowing influence of the U.S. We will discuss the major changes that may come about as this war finally ends.
