FINAN 6445 - 001 Alternative Investments


This course will provide an overview of the Alternative Investment asset classes most commonly found in the portfolios of financial institutions, including Private Equity, Private Credit, Hedge Funds, and Real Assets (real estate, infrastructure, and natural resources). The course will also cover many of the underlying sub-strategies in each. Students will receive an introduction into the return-enhancing and diversification benefits of Alternative Assets, their benefits in asset allocation, and how Alternatives are commonly used in portfolios by financial institutions and institutional investors. An introduction to emerging asset classes such as crypto currencies and insurance-linked securities will also be covered. Content will include guest lectures from industry professionals, readings, case studies, and team projects.
