Description

Introductory survey of solid-state physics. Topics covered bonding and mechanical properties of solids; crystal structure, diffraction techniques, reciprocal space; thermal properties, Bose-Einstein statistics of phonons; electrical properties in free electron approximation; electron in periodic potentials, Bloch theorem, electronic band structure, insulators, conductors and semi-conductors; electron - electron interactions, Thomas-Fermi screening, many-particle wave functions, Hartree-Fock approximation; magnetic properties of solids.
