Taught as Writing Emphasis. For explanation, see Writing Program in the Courses section of this catalog. A study of contemporary drama written by African-Americans. Authors such as James Baldwin, Lorraine Hansberry, Leroi Jones, and others explore various American institutions (church, marriage, home, school, and job) from an African-American perspective. Students experience both product and process through reading and discussing finest African- American theatre.
