Description
Come and learn to express your feelings, ideas, and observations about our beautiful flying friends at the Aviary. Instructors are professional teaching artists who have master's degrees and/or teaching certificates. Students will rotate through all three classes each day. Co-sponsored by Tracy Aviary and Global Artways in collaboration with the Mayor's Youth Program. Jr. Composers Club: Have you ever wondered what it would be like to sing like a bird or make sounds like rolling thunder? In this section of the arts camp, create music with your voice, drums, and other percussion instruments. Record the aviary birds as they communicate to each other and then create songs that reflect their rhythms, pitch, and volume. Learn about birds' natural habitats. Create a symphony of musical sounds that will be shared at our 'Celebrate the Birds' activity on the last day. Movin' & Groovin' with the Birds: Become a young dance maker. Create movement pieces that explore the world of birds. Study dances of the countries where our aviary birds originate such as the Caribbean and Africa. Learn how to salsa, hip hop, and more. The birds were dancing before us! Share your groups' dance at our celebration on the last day. The Art of Feathered Friends: Capture flight on paper using watercolors, pen and ink, and markers. Create a bird mask and colorful stick puppet. Form a ceramic bird sculpture out of clay and build a wood assemblage of your favorite flying friends. Exhibit your work at our celebration on the last day.
