Description
This course will focus on an overview of the history of the evolution of technology used in the supply chain and the terminology of e-commerce. We will review the successes and failures of both Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and E-commerce in today's purchasing environment as well as integration these technologies into company ERP systems. Security, privacy, and reliability issues related to e-commerce initiatives, digital signatures, encryption, and other technology related to e-commerce will be discussed. Legal issues surrounding e-commerce will be presented and Trading Partner Agreements, the U.C.C., global trading, acceptable use policies and other pertinent legal issues, and internet sourcing and other tools available online for purchasers will be reviewed. The focus will be on emerging technologies, ERP applications, and cost-benefit analysis. The use of electronic and reverse auctions will be covered as will electronic bidding and enhancement ideas for purchasing web sites. Students will be presented ideas on the various traditional and non-traditional ways in which e-commerce can benefit their organizations.. Topics covered will also focus on the 'information technology' areas of Part B of Module 2 of the C.P.M. Exam. How purchasers can best approach this important topic in their jobs will also be discussed. This is an elective class for the Purchasing and Supply Management Certificate Program and is endorsed by NAPM UTAH.
