Description
This course provides students with a Demand Flow? Technology approach to purchasing negotiations. The course emphasizes the role of purchasing in product design, procurement forecasting, source management, product costs, and quality control. The course text is 'Quantum Leap in Speed to Market: Demand Flow Technology and Business Strategy' by John Costanza. Participants will learn a systems approach to purchasing that starts with product design and includes procurement forecasting, flexible contract negotiations, supplier management, packaging, and transportation. They will also learn how to shift from a typically adversarial price-based model of purchasing to a model that motivates close supplier relationships and cooperation and provides them with source management skills, as well as how to reduce inventory investment in component parts and finished goods, reduce total product cost, and increase product quality. This is a core class for the Purchasing and Supply Management Certificate Program and is endorsed by NAPM UTAH.
