Description
This course will present analytical methods for evaluating the dynamic response of structural systems. In addition, laboratory work using an instructional shake table will be undertaken. The course will cover software available for linear dynamic analysis of structures and inelastic static and dynamic analysis. The course topics include free vibration, harmoic and periodic excitation, and step excitation of single-degree-of-freedon systems; numerical evaluation of dynamic response using time-stepping methods and Newmarks's methods; earthquake response of linear systems; response and design spectra; energy dissipation devices; generalized single degree of freedom systems; and earthquake response of inelastic systems.
