Description
Rarely heard are the female voices that express the knowledge and blessings that come with age. Why is that? This workshop suggests that culture impacts the way we per ceive ourselves; that we need a more balanced view of women and aging; and that a fuller understanding of the developmental aspects of being female can deepen our experience of growth in the middle and later years of life. What drives our overemphasis on appearance and youth? How does this limit or thwart women, especially in the later years? This workshop confronts the fears that are at the root of our love affair with youth and our denial of age, and creates openings that allow us to view aging in terms of gains rather than losses. We will utilize scholarly and popular writings, poetry, media, discussions, and personal projects with the goal of examining those interpretations that support womanhood as a continuous process of growth, expansion, and production-a process that allows a woman to grow into her own wisdom.
