Description
The goal of the Civil Clinic is for students to learn the basic lawyering skills of interviewing, counseling, and negotiating, and to explore their own strengths and preferences in practicing law. The Skills Cornerstone class introduces these skills through readings, demonstrations, role playing and videotaped exercises. Students then apply and develop these skills in representing their own clients at public interest law offices as they interview and advise clients, develop strategies, and negotiate and advocate on their clients' behalf in administrative and court hearings. Returning to small class groupings students report upon and analyze their live clinic experiences. We try to better understand the skills and our own feelings about practicing law. For more information regarding a clinical placement see Clinic Program Brochure. The Civil Clinic has been designated a Service-Learning Course by the Bennion Center and that designation will appear on the official transcript.
