Description
Asian brush painting is an art form that strives to distill the essence of an object or scene in the fewest possible strokes and, in so doing, reflects the ideas/philosophy of Tao and Confucius. Develop the foundation for this lovely, meditative form of art in our five-week class. You will learn techniques for graduating ink shade and color with a single brush stroke on different qualities of rice paper. We'll study sequences and direction of strokes and proper grip and movement of the brush to integrate Taoist philosophies of rhythm and structure, freedom and simplicity. As the course progresses, we will move through the discipline of structure and technique to create expressive renditions of subjects such as bamboo, plum blossoms, mountain orchid, and chrysanthemum.
