Description
This course is about First Amendment issues that confront the press. Topics include defamation, privacy, reporter's privilege, access to official proceedings, freedom of information rights, prior restraint, fair trial, broadcast regulation, and copyright. We will begin each topic with analysis of the legal doctrine and then discuss how the legal doctrine affects the role of the press and other actors in a democratic system.
