Description
This course explores three contemporary authors and their views on the strength of the feminine within the family, including the meaning of "mother." Within that examination, special attention is centered on what it means to be motherless, and the impact that condition has on the three teen-aged narrators. Topics focus on the social construction of family and the value of self-preservation and relationship-building in the aftermath of damaged and fragmented families. Students will have ample opportunity to share insights and opinions. Reading the suggested books will enhance appreciation of the class.
