Important writers of the African American literary tradition from the Harlem Renaissance to the present. Wright, Baldwin, Ellison, Brooks, Morrison, M. Walker, A. Walker, Hansberry, and the writers of the Black Arts Movement. Works and writers are approached in relation to the cultural, social, and historical background from which they emerged.
